Moping 101

No dog mopes like a Basenji.

The huffy little sighs, the flump and flop against you to indicate sorrow, distress and the need for a belly rub...the martyred looks after you've given them a bath.

No, Basenjis have mastered the art of moping.

Denny will mope when he doesn't want to get out of bed.

He will mope after he has been out for a long walk and hasn't caught a single squirrel.

He will mope for no reason other than you are not paying attention to him.

Naturally, you can't let this sweet-faced little thing mope, so you have to give kisses, belly rubs, snuggles and treats. This leads to a condition known as codependency. And yet, I'm not ready to call "Intervention" just yet...

  1. This happens several times a day at our house as well. I'm not sure if it's codependency or addiction to basenjis.

  2. Don't forget moping due to inclement weather!

  3. My rescue Phoenix is the KING of moping. Just when i thought i saw the saddest, most dejected looking face/position he continues to out do himself...his over abundance of wrinkles on his forhead make him look like the saddest creature on the planet.
