They Won't Forget

As foster families, we often care for dogs during the worst and most confusing time of their lives. We do our best to nurse them back to health, and help them remember what it's like to be a loved member of a family. Then we let them go on to their forever homes with a piece of our heart.

Pona was my foster dog for 4 months. He came to me with a broken femur, heartworms, and several other health problems. Lucky for me, he was adopted out by a friend of mine, so I can continue to watch him blossom in his loving forever home.

The following video shows a greeting between Pona and me. He had been in his new home for about three months when this was taken. He doesn't live with me anymore, but I believe that he will always remember me and our connection. We're both so excited to see each other!

  2. I try to email and send pictures every month or so to Bella's (Basenji mix) foster family. It helps that we only live 2 or 3 hours from each other. We have met part way at a dog park before and her foster family made a trip to see us once. It has been almost a year and Bella gets all excited. She remembers them.
